Solar potential of schools

Sooo.. the assignment was to help dataforgood with one of their projects. We did go to the kickoff with a couple of friends, and it appeared one project could possibly be and feasible and interesting.

It was about using OSINT to identify schools (primary and secondary) across the french territories (and it’s large.. and complex), and identify the potential to use some of their rooftops to get solar panels and have renewable generation on site.

A lot of fun - mapping schools, mapping shapes, learning about digital surface models, and geospatial streams.. and we got onto somewhere!

Interestingly, it seemed a first order pass, using a department with the potential already mapped, was ‘good enough’ to start with. Nothing beats simple.
